Iron Sharpens Iron
Proverbs 27:17
Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance.

Growth does not happen in a vacuum. We need people in our lives who challenge us, encourage us, and speak truth even when it is uncomfortable. Solomon’s proverb reminds us that we are sharpened through relationship — specifically through honest, mutually committed friendship.
Sharpening is not always comfortable. Iron against iron creates friction. Likewise, genuine Christian fellowship sometimes involves hard conversations, loving confrontation, and the willingness to hear things we would rather avoid. But this friction produces growth.
We need people who will not simply affirm us but also hold us accountable. A friend who always agrees with us may be pleasant, but a friend who cares enough to challenge us is a gift. Spiritual maturity flourishes when we are willing to be sharpened.
Seek out relationships that make you better — not relationships that leave you unchallenged.
