A Lamp to My Feet
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.
World English Bible
We want floodlights. God gives us a lamp. We want to see the entire road ahead, mapped out and predictable. But God's Word illuminates just enough for the next step — and that is by design.
A lamp to the feet does not remove the darkness entirely. It reveals what is immediately before us. This is how God often guides: not by showing us the full plan, but by giving us enough light for today's obedience. He asks us to trust Him with the rest.
The Word of God is not a strategy manual for controlling our future. It is a guide for walking faithfully in the present. When we open Scripture, we are not simply gathering information; we are receiving direction from a God who knows every turn in the road ahead.
If the path feels unclear, the problem may not be a lack of light. It may be that we have stopped walking close enough to the lamp.
Reflect
- Am I looking for floodlights when God is offering a lamp?
- How has Scripture guided a specific decision or attitude in my life recently?
- What step of obedience is God's Word illuminating for me right now?
Pray
Thank God for His Word and its power to guide you. Ask Him to help you trust the light He gives for today without demanding to see the entire road ahead.
