Faithful to the End
Revelation 2:10
Don’t be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested; and you will have oppression for ten days. Be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Jesus' words to the church in Smyrna are both sobering and encouraging. He does not promise to remove their suffering. He promises to reward their faithfulness. The call is not to comfort, but to endurance.
Faithfulness unto death is the ultimate expression of trust. It says, "I believe that what God promises is more valuable than what this world threatens." The early Christians understood this. They did not cling to earthly safety because they clung to an eternal hope.
We may not face the same kind of persecution, but we face the same temptation: to trade faithfulness for comfort, to compromise truth for acceptance, to drift quietly rather than endure the cost of following Christ. The call to be faithful is not reserved for extreme circumstances. It is the daily invitation of discipleship.
The crown of life is not earned by dramatic heroism alone. It is given to those who simply refuse to quit — those who remain faithful day after day, year after year, trusting that the God who called them will sustain them to the end.

- What would faithfulness to Christ look like in the most challenging area of my life right now?
- Am I more focused on comfort or on endurance?
- Do I believe the crown of life is worth whatever faithfulness may cost?
Pray
Ask God for the strength to remain faithful. Pray for endurance in the face of difficulty and for a heart that values His eternal reward above all temporary comforts. Thank Him for the promise of the crown of life.
