God's Plans Are Higher

Isaiah 55:8–9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

World English Bible

God's plans do not always make sense to us. His timing seems slow. His methods seem unusual. His answers sometimes look nothing like what we requested. Isaiah reminds us that this gap between our thinking and God's is not a flaw — it is the nature of who He is.

We want a God we can predict. We want plans we can map out and outcomes we can control. But a God whose thoughts are as limited as ours would not be worth trusting. It is precisely because His ways are higher that we can rest in them.

Trusting God in the unknown means accepting that we will not always understand what He is doing. It means believing that His perspective sees what ours cannot and that His purposes are always good, even when they are not yet clear.

When life does not go according to our plan, it does not mean God has lost control. It means His plan is bigger than ours. And that is a reason for trust, not anxiety.

Reflect

  • Where have I been frustrated by God's apparent inaction or unexpected direction?
  • Am I willing to trust a plan I cannot fully understand?
  • How might God's higher perspective be at work in the situation I'm facing?

Pray

Acknowledge to God that His ways are higher than yours. Release the need to understand everything and ask Him for the peace that comes from trusting His wisdom over your own.
