A New Creation
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

When someone is baptized into Christ, something real happens. It is not a symbolic gesture or a public statement of a decision already made—it is the moment of transformation Paul describes here. The old passes away. The new comes. You are not an improved version of your former self. You are a new creation entirely.
This is easy to affirm on Sunday morning and remarkably hard to believe on Tuesday afternoon. The old habits still whisper. The old insecurities still surface. The old patterns of thinking still try to reassert themselves. And so we wonder: Am I really new? Has anything actually changed?
Paul's answer is an emphatic yes. The change is real, even when it does not feel complete. A seed planted in the ground does not become a tree overnight, but it is no longer just a seed. Something living is at work inside it. In the same way, the new life God has placed in you is growing, even when progress feels slow. The Spirit is at work in ways you cannot always see.
Your identity is not determined by your worst day, your deepest struggle, or your longest-standing habit. Your identity is determined by the One who made you new. You belong to Christ. The old life no longer has the final word. When you are tempted to define yourself by your failures, remember: God has already defined you by His grace.

- What old patterns of thinking or behavior still try to assert themselves in my life?
- How does knowing my identity is in Christ—not in my performance—change the way I face today?

Thank God for making you a new creation. Ask Him to help you see yourself as He sees you—not defined by the past, but made new by His grace. Pray for the strength to live out of your new identity in Christ today.
