Cast Your Cares

Peter connects two things we rarely put together: humility and anxiety. At first glance, they seem unrelated. But Peter sees something deeper. Anxiety is often a form of pride—not the arrogant kind, but the kind that says, "I must figure this out on my own. I must carry this burden myself. I cannot afford to trust someone else with my problems." Casting our anxieties on God requires the humility to admit we cannot handle them alone.

The word Peter uses for "casting" is vivid—it means to throw, to hurl, to toss with intention. This is not a polite handing off of your worries. It is a deliberate act of releasing them into the hands of someone stronger. You do not cast your anxieties on God by thinking about them less. You cast them by actively entrusting them to His care.

And the reason we can do this is stunning in its simplicity: because He cares for you. Not because He is obligated. Not because you have earned it. Not because your problems are interesting to Him. Because He cares. The God who sustains the universe cares about what keeps you awake at night. The God who holds the oceans in His hand cares about the burden on your heart.

Today, whatever you are carrying—worry about finances, health, relationships, the future—God invites you to throw it at His feet. Not to pretend it does not exist. Not to minimize it. But to acknowledge that it is too heavy for you and that there is Someone strong enough to bear it.
