Guided by the Spirit Through the Word
2 Timothy 3:16–17
Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that each person who belongs to God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

When Jesus promised the Spirit would teach and remind His disciples of all He had said (John 14–16), He was speaking specifically to the apostles — those who would carry His message into the world and lay the foundation of the church. Through them, the Spirit delivered the inspired Scriptures we now hold in our hands.
We should not expect new revelation or private instruction beyond what God has already revealed. The Spirit’s work today is not to add to Scripture, but to apply it. He illuminates what has been written. He convicts when we drift from truth. He strengthens our resolve to obey what God has already made clear.
Walking by the Spirit, then, is inseparable from walking in the Word. The Spirit does not operate independently of Scripture, nor does He contradict it. As we read, meditate, and submit to God’s Word, the Spirit shapes our thinking and aligns our lives with Christ.
The Christian life is not guided by inner impressions alone, but by revealed truth empowered by the Spirit. The more deeply Scripture dwells in us, the more clearly the Spirit’s work is seen in us.
To walk by the Spirit is to live under the authority of God’s revealed Word.

- How regularly am I allowing Scripture to shape my thinking?
- Do I look for guidance primarily in feelings, or in God’s revealed truth?
- Where might the Spirit be convicting me through the Word I already know?

Thank God for the gift of His inspired Word. Ask the Spirit to illuminate Scripture as you read it, to convict you where needed, and to strengthen you to live in obedience to what He has already revealed.
