The Inner Battle
Galatians 5:17
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire.
World English Bible
Walking by the Spirit does not eliminate struggle. Scripture is honest: there is a conflict within us between the flesh and the Spirit. Even mature believers feel this tension. The presence of struggle is not proof of failure; it is evidence that a new nature is at work.
The flesh seeks comfort, recognition, and control. The Spirit seeks holiness, humility, and trust. Every day we face small crossroads where we choose which influence to follow. Growth happens not when temptation disappears, but when we consistently choose obedience.
This battle should not discourage us. It reminds us that transformation is ongoing. As we repeatedly yield to the Spirit’s direction, His influence grows stronger in our lives.
Victory in the Christian life is not perfection, but persistence in choosing the Spirit’s way.
Reflect
- Where am I feeling the tension between selfish desire and spiritual obedience?
- How have I responded to that tension recently?
- What choice today will strengthen my walk with the Spirit?
Pray
Confess areas where the flesh has been winning. Ask God for strength to choose obedience and for grace when you stumble.
