Led, Not Driven
Galatians 5:16
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh.
World English Bible
To walk by the Spirit is to live under a different influence. We are always being shaped by something — culture, emotion, fear, ambition, habit. The Spirit-filled life is not passive; it is responsive to God’s leadership instead of being driven by impulse.
Our natural instincts pull us toward self-protection, pride, and immediate gratification. But the Spirit gently leads us toward obedience, humility, and love. Walking implies daily movement. It is not a single dramatic decision, but a continual surrender of direction.
Being led by the Spirit requires attentiveness. We pause before reacting. We consult Scripture before deciding. We pray before speaking. Over time, this daily responsiveness reshapes our character.
When we walk by the Spirit, we are not controlled by our impulses — we are guided by God’s presence.
Reflect
- What has been influencing my decisions most recently — emotion, pressure, or the Spirit?
- Where do I need to pause and seek God’s direction before moving forward?
- Am I living reactively, or prayerfully?
Pray
