Losing to Find

Matthew 16:25

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.

World English Bible

The logic of the kingdom is upside down by the world's standards. The way to find your life is to lose it. The way to gain is to give up. The way to rise is to kneel. Jesus calls us into a paradox that only faith can navigate.

We instinctively protect ourselves. We guard our time, our comfort, our reputation, and our plans. But Jesus says this self-preservation is ultimately self-destruction. A life lived for its own sake shrinks. A life surrendered to Christ expands into something far greater than we could construct on our own.

Losing our life for Christ's sake does not mean we cease to exist. It means we stop building our identity around things that cannot last and begin finding it in the One who is eternal. It means our ambitions, our dreams, and our daily choices are reoriented around His purposes.

What feels like loss in the moment often proves to be the doorway to the truest kind of life.

Reflect

  • What am I clinging to that God may be asking me to release?
  • Where have I been trying to save my life instead of surrendering it?
  • What might I find if I truly lost my life for Christ's sake?

Pray

Ask God to help you release whatever you are holding too tightly. Pray for the faith to trust that what He gives back will be greater than what you surrender.
