The Narrow Gate
Matthew 7:13–14
“Enter in by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter in by it. How narrow is the gate and the way is restricted that leads to life! There are few who find it.

Jesus does not pretend that the path of discipleship is easy or popular. He calls it narrow and hard. The wide road is easier, more comfortable, and more crowded. But it leads somewhere we do not want to go.
The narrow gate is not narrow because God wants to exclude people. It is narrow because it requires a specific kind of entry: humility, repentance, obedience, and faith in Christ. There is no room to carry our pride, our self-reliance, or our unwillingness to submit. The gate demands that we come God's way, not our own.
In a culture that celebrates tolerance of every path, Jesus' words sound exclusive. But truth is not cruel because it is specific. A doctor who tells you there is one cure for your disease is not narrow-minded; he is honest. Jesus offers the only path that leads to life, and He invites everyone to walk it.
The narrow way is harder, but it is the only way that leads where it promises.

- Am I tempted to choose the easier road over the faithful one?
- Where in my life have I been drifting toward the wide gate without realizing it?
- What does it look like to choose the narrow way in my specific circumstances today?
Pray
Ask God for the courage to choose the narrow way, even when the wide road is more appealing. Pray for clarity to see where compromise has crept in and for strength to walk the path that leads to life.
