No Turning Back
Luke 9:62
But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for God’s Kingdom.”
World English Bible
A plowman who keeps looking over his shoulder will plow a crooked furrow. His eyes must be fixed forward, or the work will be wasted. Jesus uses this image to warn against half-hearted discipleship — the kind that says yes to following Him but keeps glancing longingly at what was left behind.
Looking back is a temptation for every believer. We remember the ease of living without conviction. We miss the approval of people we left behind. We second-guess whether the sacrifice of obedience is worth it. But Jesus is clear: the kingdom demands full commitment.
This does not mean we cannot grieve what obedience costs us. It means we do not let that grief pull us backward. The direction of our heart determines the trajectory of our faith.
Following Christ requires forward motion — eyes on Him, hands on the plow, and no turning back.

- What from my past am I tempted to look back toward?
- Is there an area where I am giving Christ only partial commitment?
- What helps me keep my eyes forward when the temptation to look back is strong?
Pray
Ask God to strengthen your resolve to keep moving forward in faith. Confess any areas of divided loyalty and ask for the grace to follow Christ wholeheartedly.
