Salt and Light
Matthew 5:13–16
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men. “You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus does not say we should try to be salt and light. He says we are. If we belong to Him, our lives carry an inherent influence. The question is not whether we have influence, but whether that influence is faithful.
Salt preserves and flavors. Light illuminates and exposes. Both work quietly. Neither demands attention, but both make an unmistakable difference. A Christian who lives with integrity, kindness, and quiet faithfulness in a broken world is doing exactly what Jesus described.
But salt can lose its flavor. Light can be hidden. When we blend in so completely that no one can tell the difference between our lives and the world around us, we have lost our purpose. Discipleship is not meant to be invisible.
You do not need a platform to make an impact. You need faithfulness. Let your life quietly, consistently reflect Christ, and the world around you will notice.

- Is my life noticeably different because of Christ, or have I blended into my surroundings?
- Where has my "saltiness" grown dull?
- How can I let my light shine in a practical way today without seeking attention?
Pray
Ask God to restore your distinctiveness as His disciple. Pray for the courage to be visibly faithful and for opportunities to let your light shine in natural, authentic ways.
