Set Your Mind on Things Above
Colossians 3:2
Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth.
World English Bible
Our thoughts quietly shape the direction of our lives. What we dwell on influences our emotions, our decisions, and our spiritual health. Left unchecked, our minds gravitate toward what feels urgent — problems to solve, conflicts to replay, fears about the future. These things can consume us without ever truly satisfying us.
Paul calls us to lift our focus higher. To set our minds on things above means intentionally directing our attention toward Christ, His kingdom, and His promises. It is a deliberate shift from living as though this world is all there is to remembering that we belong to something eternal.
When our minds are anchored only in earthly concerns, our peace rises and falls with circumstances. But when our thoughts are rooted in heaven, we gain perspective. Temporary disappointments do not define us. Present struggles are seen in light of future glory. Obedience matters more than immediate success.
This kind of thinking does not happen automatically. It is cultivated through prayer, Scripture, worship, and constant reminders of truth. As our minds are shaped by eternity, our lives begin to reflect it.
Reflect
- What has been consuming my thoughts lately, and how has it affected my peace?
Pray
Ask God to help you notice when your mind is overwhelmed by earthly concerns. Invite Him to redirect your thoughts toward His promises, His purposes, and the hope you have in Christ.
