Testing with a Purpose
Psalm 66:10
For you, God, have tested us. You have refined us, as silver is refined.

Testing is rarely something we welcome, yet Scripture reminds us that God uses it with purpose. The psalmist compares testing to refining silver — a process that requires heat to remove impurities. In the same way, trials expose what is fragile, misplaced, or untrue in our faith.
Refining does not destroy silver; it purifies it. Likewise, God’s testing is not meant to break us, but to shape us. He allows pressure not because He delights in our discomfort, but because He is committed to our growth. Trials reveal where we rely on false securities and invite us to place deeper trust in Him.
The refining process is uncomfortable, but it is also intentional. God knows exactly how much heat is needed and when the process is complete. He does not test aimlessly or excessively. His discipline is measured, purposeful, and loving.
When we feel the heat, we can trust that the Refiner is near.

- Where have trials revealed areas of misplaced trust or weakness?
- Do I believe God’s refining work is guided by love rather than punishment?

Ask God to help you submit to His refining work. Pray for humility to learn from this season and for trust in His loving purpose, even when the process feels difficult.
