The Word That Does Not Return Empty

Isaiah 55:10–11

For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and doesn’t return there, but waters the earth, and makes it grow and bud, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do.

World English Bible

God's Word always accomplishes its purpose. It never fails. It never falls short. Even when we cannot see its impact, it is working. Like rain that soaks into the earth long before anything green appears above the surface, Scripture does its work in unseen places.

This is both a comfort and a challenge. It is a comfort because it means the time we invest in God's Word is never wasted. Even when a passage does not seem to "connect" in the moment, it is planting seeds. God's truth has a way of surfacing at exactly the right time.

It is also a challenge because it reminds us that God's Word carries authority. It is not optional reading. It is God speaking with intention. When we hear it, we are accountable to respond.

Trust the process. Keep reading, keep studying, keep listening. God's Word is accomplishing more than you realize.

Reflect

  • Have I been discouraged because I did not see immediate fruit from time spent in God's Word?
  • Do I trust that Scripture is doing its work even when I cannot measure the results?
  • How can I be more consistent in letting God's Word into my daily life?

Pray

Thank God that His Word never returns empty. Ask Him to deepen your love for Scripture and to help you trust its power even when the results are not yet visible.
