Deepening the Soul

2 Corinthians 4:16–18

Therefore we don’t faint, but though our outward person is decaying, yet our inward person is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory, while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

World English Bible

Trials can make us feel like we are falling apart. Paul admits that outwardly we may be wasting away. But inwardly, something else is happening. God is renewing us day by day, shaping an eternal weight of glory through present struggles.

We tend to measure life by what we can see — physical strength, circumstances, visible success. But God is at work in the unseen. Character is being formed. Faith is being refined. Hope is being strengthened. These are eternal realities that outweigh temporary hardship.

Fixing our eyes on what is unseen requires faith. It means believing that what God is doing beneath the surface matters more than what we feel on the surface.

Trials may weaken the body, but they can deepen the soul.

Reflect

  • Where have I been focused only on visible difficulties instead of unseen growth?
  • What might God be shaping in me through this season?
  • How can I fix my eyes on eternal realities instead of temporary pain?

Pray

Ask God to help you see beyond what is visible and trust the unseen work He is doing in your life. Pray for faith to value eternal growth more than temporary comfort.
